The Ministry of Health issued a document in response to reports that five domestic biscuits brands were alleged to contain carcinogenic substances.
According to a document issued by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia, the health risks associated with the intake of acrylamide and glycidol through cookies are low. Acrylamide is a contaminant produced during food processing or preparation, but it can be controlled through the selection of ingredients and proper procedures.
The Ministry of Health has been inspecting domestic brands of cookies since 2015, and the average level of acrylamide was 246 micrograms per kilogram, which is lower than the EU standard of 350 micrograms per kilogram.
A few days ago the Hong Kong Consumer Council sampled 60 cookie samples and found that five cookies made in Malaysia contained acrylamide and glycidol. The affected cookie brands include Hup Seng, Jacobs and Julie’s, etc.
