According to the Ministry of Education, the 2021 school year will last until the end of February 2022, and the new school year will begin in March. The Ministry of Education has not ruled out the possibility of setting the start of the school year in March each year.
The Education Minister pointed out that moving the start of the school year to March has the advantage of avoiding the rainy season in November and December.
Every November and December is the rainy season in Malaysia and flooding occurs on the east coast which affects the conduct of the SPM. By moving the SPM to February, you can avoid the rainy season at the end of the year and start the new academic year in March.
The advantage of starting the school year in March is that it shortens the time candidates have to wait for universities or higher education institutions to start. If the SPM is held in February, the results will be released in May and you will be able to enter higher education directly from June to August. Previously, the SPM was held in November and the results were released in March, requiring students to wait seven to eight months before they could enroll in a higher education institution.
