All Malaysian citizens aged 12 years or above are issued with a Malaysia Card (Mykad) by the National Registration Office (JPN). The Mykad is a personal identity card that symbolizes the nationality of the cardholder.
Each Mykad holder has a unique set of identification numbers. Each Mykad number will be a 12-digit number, from which a lot of personal information can be learned.
The first 6 digits of the card are the year, month and date of birth of the cardholder. Then the 7th and 8th digits represent the cardholder’s state or region, and each state will have a different number. The last 4 digits belong to the last digit of the ID number, which is random.
The last number can be distinguished from the gender, male is odd number such as 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, while female is even number such as 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.
In addition, there will be a set of numbers on the back of the card, and the last two digits of the number means that this is your first card. If it is 02, it is the second Damascus card, 03 is the third one.
