People should pick up their passports within 90 days to prevent them from being discarded.
According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Malaysians who renewed their passports online have been asked to pick up the document right away to prevent it from being destroyed after 90 days.
He added that the situation was also in accordance with the rules established by the Immigration Department.
Although we realise that there may be certain problems that prevent the passports from being claimed, it is not within the purview of the Immigration Department to send the passports to the applicants.
Prior to this, the Immigration Department had disclosed that up to 2,600 online-renewed passports had gone unclaimed.
For the purpose of serving as the government’s eyes and ears, particularly with regard to matters of national security, more than 2,000 people have enrolled as “Sahabat Kita Demi Negara.”
He added that membership is open to all groups, including school-age youngsters, and that among the many benefits they will receive is the ability to take part in various activities carried out by any security agency falling under the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN).
