The government will adjust the income value of the domestic poverty line
The government will change the domestic poverty line’s income value!
The government has been conducting a sample survey of 92,000 households since January of this year to understand the people’s income, expenditure, prices, services, and demand patterns as well as the impact of the rising cost of living, according to news released by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
In Malaysia, the poverty line has increased starting in 2019, going from RM980 to RM2208. The figure for the extreme poverty income is RM1169 per month.
5.6% of the country’s extremely poor families and 0.4% of the extremely poor families lived there in 2019. 8.4% of households with extreme poverty and 1.0% with extreme poverty will exist in 2020.
The Welfare Department for Bantuan Warga Emas, or BWE for short, accepts applications from seniors whose family income does not exceed the federal poverty level, according to information on the official website of the Malaysian Welfare Department (JKM). Successful applicants will get RM 500 in Senior Citizen Assistance each month.
The requirements for the welfare department to give aid will be altered properly if the government increases the income value of the domestic poverty line.
