The government will increase the domestic tax on sugary beverages from 40 cents to 50 cents starting from January 1, 2024.

According to a government statement, the government will increase the sugar domestic tax on carbonated beverages containing more than 5 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters from 40 sen to 50 sen.

Dairy drinks containing more than 7 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters will also be affected, as will fruit and vegetable juices containing more than 12 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters.

In addition, the government will also extend the levy of sugary domestic tax from March 1, 2024 to three-in-one pre-mixed brewed beverage packets.

1. carbonated beverages containing more than 5 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters.
2. Dairy beverages containing more than 7 grams of sugar per 100 ml.
3. fruit or vegetable juice containing more than 12 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters.
