4 Major Assistance Payouts from Government Awards

1)Start of school assistance
Starting from January 12, the government will give out a start of school assistance (Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) of RM150 to every primary and secondary school student to ease the burden of parents.

It is said that this policy is mainly intended to help students from low-income families, but this year it will be open to all classes of students, regardless of the parent’s income, who can receive this aid, no special application is required. This means that if a parent has three children in school at the same time, he or she will receive RM450.

 

2) Citizens’ Assistance Fund
The first phase of the Bantuan Tunai Rakyat (BTR), which replaces the government’s Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM), was originally scheduled to open in March 2023, but now it has been confirmed that the payment will be made earlier in January, which is expected to benefit 90 million people. The beneficiaries of the first phase include.

  • The head of a family: RM300
  • Single person: RM100

No other details have been released yet by the authorities, including the actual release date and the conditions of eligible beneficiaries.

 

3) Special assistance for rice farmers
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Mohamad Sabu said that rice farmers in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang will receive the RM1,000 grant from the National Rice Corporation (Bernas) in batches this month. The grant is expected to be disbursed on January 6 at the latest, with priority given to 20,598 rice farmers in the three East Coast states, who will each receive RM250.

 

4) Special economic assistance payments
Attention Malaysian civil servants! The government will be giving out special financial assistance to civil servants from January 17th in appreciation of their contribution to the public sector throughout the year.

(Different levels of civil servants will receive the same amount of assistance)

  • All civil servants from grade 11 to 56: Special additional pay increase of RM100
  • All civil servants of grade 56 and below: one-time assistance of RM700
  • Retired civil servants: RM350 one-time assistance

(Package for those who qualify)

  • Civil servants who are serving on January 17, 2023, such as those in the Management and Professional Group and those in the Executive Group, and covering permanent, contract, and temporary appointments and those on half-pay leave, full-pay leave, and those on no leave.
  • Officials appointed under the Short Term Employment Program (MySTEP) who have served for at least half a year in 2022.
