The government will distribute free tablets to university students, applications open in mid-April

06/03/2022

The government will give free tablets to university students that can be applied by mid-April.

University students will receive free tablet computers from the government! The application period will begin in mid-April, and the results will be announced in June!

The Peranti Siswa Keluarga Malaysia, a Malaysian tertiary equipment initiative, will open for applications in mid-April, according to the Minister of Communications and Multimedia. In June, government-issued tablets will be distributed to eligible tertiary students.

When the Finance Minister released the Budget 2022, he said the government would work with telecommunications firms to develop a device programme for tertiary students in Malaysia (Peranti Siswa Keluarga Malaysia).

The government will give RM450 million and the communication company will contribute RM65 million to a tertiary student equipment scheme in Malaysia, which is estimated to help 600,000 university students from low-income B40 families. Students from low-income families that attend public or private post-secondary institutions are eligible.

The government has not yet revealed the application process for this programme, nor has it defined how to classify college students from B40 low-income families, although it is expected to be conditional on whether or not they receive aid. The tablet is available to parents of tertiary students who have received BPR, BKC, or BKM help.

Some MPs chastised the administration for not issuing tablets instead of laptops, claiming that laptops are more practical. What are your thoughts?
