MIROS proposes to implement speed limits of 30km/h and 50km/h in Kuala Lumpur city center!
According to a message from the Deputy Federal Minister, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety (MIROS) has recommended the implementation of speed limits of 30km/h and 50km/h in Kuala Lumpur city center. The roads involved are the ones that currently have speed limits of 40 km/h and 60 km/h.
MIROS proposes to lower the speed limit from 40 km/h to 30 km/h for residential areas and roads with many pedestrians and pedal cars. Roads in school areas will remain at the 30 km/h speed limit.
For roads where the 60 km/h speed limit was previously in place, it is proposed to reduce the speed limit to 50 km/h. This includes Jalan Bangsar and Jalan Ampang.
There will be no change for those roads where the 70km/h and 80km/h speed limits were previously in place. This includes Jalan Tun Razak with a speed limit of 70 km/h, Jalan Loke Yew with a speed limit of 70 km/h, Jalan Syed Putra with a speed limit of 80 km/h and Lebuhraya Mahameru with a speed limit of 80 km/h.
The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety is still refining the proposal and is expected to complete the study by September 2022. Adjusting the speed limits on Kuala Lumpur’s urban roads will help improve the safety of pedestrians and pedestrians.
