According to Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul’s message in Parliament, the government needs three to six months to test the targeted gasoline subsidy mechanism to ensure that it is suitable for implementation in both urban and rural areas.
The government will also use other means to conduct more extensive testing before it is implemented nationwide.
In addition, Zafrou has assured that the M40 middle-income group will also benefit from the new targeted gasoline subsidy mechanism, so the M40 group can rest assured.
The Finance Minister was also reluctant to disclose the new gasoline allowance mechanism, saying only that different regions may use different approaches. Because not all places are suitable to use gasoline card, some places people still prefer to use cash.
