The government is exploring the possibility of punishing those who do not respect the Malay language with a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment!
According to a message from the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Language and Publications Authority (NLPA), the government is exploring an amendment to the NLPA Act 1959, which makes Malay the national language of the country, and those who do not respect the Malay language will face fines and imprisonment.
It is worth noting that this amendment does not involve grammar and spelling issues, but is aimed at those who do not respect the status of Malay as the national language, and the fine is to remind people of the need to be patriotic.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ishmael Sabri became the 9th Prime Minister of Malaysia in August last year and has been actively promoting and enhancing the status of Malay language.
