The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria last week has been over a week old (7th). Local data show that this natural disaster has caused more than 37,000 fatalities.
Even though the key 72-hour period has passed, rescue efforts are still being made by search and rescue professionals. An earlier report stated that a 10-year-old child spent 185 hours buried under the wreckage. Finally saved, he has been sent to a hospital for care. Rescuers also discovered four survivors nearby, including a family of three, using life detectors. Additionally, a 13-year-old child who had been stuck for 182 hours was rescued.
According to the Turkish government, 150,000 disaster victims from the impacted areas have already been transferred to camps, and close to 20,000 people have already been sent to the hospital. Additionally, it resulted in the separation of about 1,000 children from their families, 300 of whom were unable to be located and were consequently forced to spend a brief period of time in welfare facilities. There are commercial institutions. Financial damages resulting from the earthquake alone in Turkey are estimated to have totaled US$84.1 billion (approximately RM366.2 billion).
