In addition, there were strange incidents outside the courtroom during the trial. The defense lawyer pointed out during the defense that the defendant was only illegally disposing of the corpse and did not need to talk too much about it, and the lights in the courtroom immediately blinked on and off, leaving everyone stunned. It was also said that as long as the Hello Kitty doll was moved to wherever the nearby lights would inexplicably flicker. In addition, one of the defendants, Liang Shengzu, was escorted back to the detention center after the trial and told the guards that all the women he saw in court looked the same as the female deceased Fan Minyi, suspecting that he had hit a ghost.
The judge who tried the case that year was Nguyen Van Dao, and after completing the trial discarded all the clothes that had been worn into the courtroom, mainly because he felt that the clothes had always smelled, so he had to throw them away for disposal. In addition, there were many paranormal events in the building where the case took place back then. It is said that a woman named Wendy, who did not know that a murder had occurred here, moved to the fourth floor with a friend, and Wendy’s friend said that after she moved in, she often heard a woman crying at night, but the downstairs was clearly vacant, and the situation of a ghost pressing the bed when she slept was also very common. In order to live with peace of mind, Wendy invited a statue of Buddha from Thailand to be placed in the house to suppress. Mr. Wong, who lives across the street from Wendy’s house, has been a resident for a long time and has helped the police identify people after the crime was solved. On the first and second floors of the building is a hairdressing salon, where the staff once found a Hello Kitty doll at the entrance before opening the door in the morning. Reviewed the CCTV footage, found in the evening after the closure of the store, in the barbershop there are figures walking around, but the owner does not admit that there are paranormal events in the store.
Another incident somewhat related to this case is also a bit bizarre. In Hello Kitty’s hidden head case was uncovered before, a Tsim Sha Tsui uniformed patrol female inspector Fung Siu Yin in the case after the incident had received a report from the public, pointed out that the unit has a foul smell. After receiving the report, Fung Siu Yin went up to the unit for inspection. During the inspection, she had crossed the Hello Kitty abandoned in the corridor of the unit, which is believed to be one of the sources of the stench, but only thought the stench was the smell of garbage, and there was no suspicion and left. It is very bizarre that Fung Siu Yin later chose to commit suicide by burning charcoal in her own home in September 2000 because of her own relationship problems.
The building was demolished 13 years after the crime (2012) and rebuilt as the Soravit on Granville Hotel in 2016. It is unknown whether it was to suppress the spirit of Fan Man-yee’s deceased, when the hotel was nearing the end of its construction, its hoardings were plastered with three artistic drawings of Buddha statues. After the reconstruction, the part where the murder took place is now a restaurant.
