ABM has urging the public to be more alert to avoid becoming the next victim.

The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) has issued 14 reminders concerning recent bank deposit theft occurrences, encouraging the public to be extra attentive in order to avoid becoming the next victim.

In the statement issued by ABM claimed that it will take aggressive measures to prevent users from being cheated and dealing with fraudulent transactions. Personal information should be protected, and users should avoid installing mobile software from unknown sites.

The public is encouraged to check their bank accounts on a regular basis, and if they see anything unusual, they should contact the bank immediately and report the crime. The bank will look into whether the transaction was done without permission.

The ABM sent out 14 reminders:

1. Do not install any apps or Android Package Kit (.apk) files from unknown sources since they could include virus that steals personal information and online banking credentials.

2. Adware or malicious URLs provided via SMS/messaging services should not be clicked.

3. Don’t make any changes to the device’s permissions.

4. Before installing, double-check the app’s permission settings and author.

5. Only install software from official sources.

6. Download and run antivirus software on your mobile device on a regular basis.

7. Update the mobile device’s operating system (OS) and applications on a regular basis.

8. Don’t give out personal information or banking credentials to strangers or people you don’t know.

9. Don’t tell anyone your Transaction Authorization Code (TAC), Personal Identification Number (PIN), or online login user name and password.

10. Never click on a bank website link in an unknown, suspicious, or unverified email; instead, type the relevant bank’s URL into the web browser section or use the bank’s official app.

11. Be wary of fake and fraudulent websites that claim to sell well-known products or services. These types of scam websites frequently promise incredible “deals” on products and frequently contain typographical errors.

12. When using online banking services, avoid using public or open networks.

13. Verify that the banking website or application is from a reputable source and authenticates its legitimacy.

14. Check the bank’s official website or call the bank’s hotline (listed on the back of the credit card or on the bank’s website) if you have any issues.
