With the arrival of Hari Raya, as many as 4.7 million people are expected to flood the roads next month to return home to celebrate Hari Raya.

According to Datuk Mat Kasim Karim, Director-General of Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (JSPT) of the Royal Malaysian Police in Bukit Aman, due to the increase in traffic flow, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Royal Malaysian Police will mobilize about 6,559 traffic police officers in different areas to ensure traffic safety.

“Due to the epidemic and the fact that cross-county borders were not allowed before, the people have not returned to their hometowns for two years. Taking this 9-day vacation, the people can use this opportunity to bring their families back to their hometowns for the holidays.”

In an interview with Bernama, he said that the theme of this year’s “Safety Action 18” remains the same as before, “stay safe at home and arrive at your destination safely”.

Police will conduct “Security Operation 18” from April 29 to May 8. The goal is to protect the safety of people’s homes and property and reduce the rate of traffic accidents during the festive season when people return to their hometowns to celebrate the festive season.

“In this safety operation, we will focus on motorcycle operations, speed limit operations and trade operations to ensure the public can comply with traffic rules.”

He said the Royal Malaysian Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department took these actions to ensure that traffic crashes could be reduced to below 50 per cent. He said that the Royal Malaysian Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department will use assets such as motorcycles and patrol cars to patrol some hot spots.
