T20 high-income group may not be entitled to rebates on electricity bills in the future!

20/07/2022

The T20 high-income group may not be entitled to ICPT rebates in the future.

According to a message from Energy and Natural Resources Minister Dato’ Takiyuddinin Parliament, the government will not rule out the possibility of subsidizing electricity bills based on household income, and the high-income group will not be able to continue to enjoy the rebate.

Currently, the government provides a rebate of 2 sen per kilowatt hour (kWh) for each household. The rebate is available to both the B40 low income group, M40 middle income group and T20 high income group.

In order to reduce the government’s financial burden, the government is looking at ways to implement a targeted subsidy mechanism, which applies not only to gasoline but also to electricity bills.

For example, if a household customer actually pays RM152.91 sen for electricity, after the government subsidy of RM37.46 sen, the household customer will only have to pay RM115.45 sen.
