What is Hheatstroke?

Currently, the weather in Malaysia is extremely hot, and here is some knowledge of heatstroke. It happens when the body’s temperature is out of control: the body’s temperature rises quickly, the sweating process fails, and the body is unable to cool down. Within 10 to 15 minutes after a heat stroke, the body temperature can reach 41°C or more. If the sufferer does not receive prompt treatment, heat stroke can result in lasting impairment or death.

Heat stroke symptoms

  • Slurred speech, confusion, and altered mental condition
  • Consciousness loss (coma)
  • Excessive sweating or hot, dry skin
  • Seizures
  • Body temperature is really high.
  • Fatal if treatment delayed

First Aid

To help a person suffering from heat stroke, use the following steps:

  • For immediate medical assistance, dial 999 or 112.
  • Keep an eye on the person until emergency medical help arrives.
  • Remove the person’s outerwear and place him/her in a shaded, cool spot.

  • Use the following strategies to fast cool the person:
  • If feasible, use cold water or an ice bath.
  • Wet his/her skin
  • Apply cool, damp towels to the skin.
  • Soak their clothes in cool water.
  • To expedite cooling, circulate air around the worker.
  • Apply ice or cold damp cloths to the head, neck, armpits, and groyne, or immerse garments in cool water.

Everyone should drink more water and deduct outdoor activities to prevent heatstroke.
