Swine fever outbreak in Malacca, pork from the state cannot be sold to other states

25/12/2021

According to a report issued by the Veterinary Department, there is an outbreak of African swine fever in seven pig farms. Pork from other pig farms in the state can only be sold in Malacca and cannot be exported to other states yet.

The Veterinary Department has also issued a quarantine order prohibiting pigs from pig farms with outbreaks of African swine fever from leaving the farm, and all pigs from infected farms must be destroyed under Section 19 of the Animals Act 1953 (amended in 2013).

African swine fever can cause 100% death of pigs, but it is not contagious to people, so there is no need to worry too much.
