Have you ever heard of “Maotai coffee”? Despite the fact that coffee shops typically serve Americano, latte, and mocha, this unique coffee is currently available at a café on Hushu South Road in Hangzhou.
A Maotai cup is filled with roughly 5 millilitres of 53-degree Feitian Maotai before being filled with milk and coffee. The business owner explained that they employ the “dirty” approach, which results in a greater flavour the more you consume. As a result, they advise against drinking it if you have an alcohol allergy or plan to drive.
The discount price for Maotai coffee is currently 35 yuan (22.84 Malaysian Ringgit), down from the original price of 88 yuan (57.44 Malaysian Ringgit), as the coffee shop is still in its testing phase. Since each cup of coffee contains 5ml of Maotai and a 500ml bottle costs more than 3,000 yuan (1,958.11 Malaysian Ringgit), the cost of the Maotai alone is 30 yuan (19.58 Malaysian Ringgit), not including the price of coffee beans and milk. In essence, the cost price is insufficient.
What flavor does this “Maotai coffee” that costs about RM58 have? Already, many bloggers have been by the coffee shop to sample it.
“The addition of genuine Feitian Maotai! The flavour is quite distinctive! Alcohol and coffee’s distinctive flavours and scent blend together to create a rich and pleasant flavour! Adore it.”
“When I first saw it, I figured there would just be one or two drops, but there were at least seven. I drank it all in one go after it was prepared, and the alcohol’s fragrance hit me square in the brain!”
“The smell of Maotai, along with the smooth flavour of coffee, is what you taste initially.”
In fact, this is not Hangzhou’s first coffee shop to sell Maotai coffee. Hangzhou has had comparable coffee since 2021.
