Take Care of Yourself

Taking care of yourself is critical to the success of your recovery. People in recovery discover that their physical, spiritual, and emotional health are all intertwined, and that helping one helps the others. Taking care of all aspects of yourself will increase the likelihood that you will remain healthy.

Some self-care ideas include:

  • Live a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and avoiding drugs and alcohol. Manage your stress and get regular medical checkups.
  • Maintain good hygiene. Good hygiene is important for social, medical, and psychological reasons because it not only reduces the risk of illness but also improves how others perceive you and how you perceive yourself.
  • Visit friends to strengthen your sense of belonging. To meet new people, consider joining a support group.
  • Every day, try to do something you enjoy. This could include dancing, watching a favourite TV show, gardening, painting, or reading.
  • Find ways to relax, such as meditation, yoga, getting a massage, taking a bath, or going for a walk in the woods.
