Student bus fares are likely to be increased in January.
According to a message from the Federation of Malaysian Student Bus Associations, student bus fares are likely to be increased in January as the cost of operating student buses has risen sharply and operators are facing problems with high prices of spare parts and drivers demanding higher salaries.
It is understood that it is difficult to hire student bus drivers because the monthly salary of student bus drivers is only about RM2,000. Many people do not want to be student bus drivers and prefer to drive long distance buses and trucks instead.
Student bus drivers are not only unattractive, but they are also unable to take leave of absence. If a student bus driver takes a leave of absence, the students will be left with no one to drive them.
In addition, although the international oil prices continue to rise, but fortunately the government has set the RON95 petrol and diesel retail ceiling price, that is, RM2.05 per liter of RON95 petrol and RM2.15 per liter of diesel, the government’s fuel ceiling price measures more or less have the effect of curbing domestic inflation, student buses do not have to bear the problem of high fuel costs.
