Student bus fares may go up from next month!
According to a message from the Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur Bus Association (PBSSPKL), student bus fares are expected to go up in June or July, with the association asking the government to provide a RM1 per liter subsidy on petrol or diesel to the operators.
The cost of maintenance and parts for student buses has risen by 50 to 80 percent, leaving the operators with no choice but to raise fares, depending on negotiations and consensus between the operators and parents. The operator requested the government to bear half of the fare and the parents to bear the rest.
Generally, the bus fare for students only includes transportation to and from school. If students need to be transported to and from extracurricular activities, tutorials, sports training, etc., they have to pay extra.
Although international oil prices continue to rise, the government has fortunately set a retail ceiling price for RON95 petrol and diesel, which is RM2.05 per liter for RON95 petrol and RM2.15 per liter for diesel, and the government’s fuel ceiling price measure has more or less the effect of curbing domestic inflation.
