The SPM exam is a must for Form 5 students in Malaysia. Have you encountered any questions in the SPM that made you feel overwhelmed? Recently, there have been rumours on the social media about the SPM Malay language oral exam questions that make parents and candidates dumbfounded and don’t know how to respond.
Recently, some parents and students shared the Malaysian SPM oral exam questions online, and the question “Your ideal wedding” has caused a lot of criticism from netizens. Former Deputy Minister of Education Teo Nie Ching said that the Ministry of Education should confirm whether the rumour is true or not, and if it is true, the candidates and their parents must get an apology from the person who answered it.
According to media reports, Teo Nie Ching said that the test questions on weddings should not be left to the candidates to answer. Rather than considering their dream wedding, students should consider whether they have worked hard enough with their schoolwork and whether their families have enough money to afford their dream university in the future.
She urged the Ministry of Education to take a more serious approach when designing the test questions. Parent Education Action also criticised the questions, saying that even if there was a question about child marriage or students getting married right after graduation, she doesn’t think it’s something a 17-year-old student should consider.
The executive director of Sisters in Islam also said that it is unacceptable that students in the 21st century Malaysian education system have to face such questions.
