It is understood that the couple was to celebrate their birthday at a Thai barbecue restaurant in Chiang Rai, and ordered an ivory phoenix snail. As a result, the man suddenly bit into an unknown object while eating the snail.

The man originally thought it was a small stone inside the snail was not clean, so he spit out the snail meat. Later, the inspection found that the original snail meat is covered with 1 pink-orange bead-like objects. After two people just started to check the Internet to know that this is the rumors of the very rare Merlot beads.

Then, in order to prove it, they sent the pearl to the Chiang Rai Research Center for testing, and got the answer and issued a certificate saying, “This is indeed a Merlot pearl”. Moreover, the value of the pearl was not less than 1 million baht (about RM124,544.17), which made the two of them very happy.

A merlot pearl is a type of conch pearl, formed in the same way as other pearls, but without the mother-of-pearl layer. Until now, Merlot pearls cannot be artificially cultured, so they are particularly valuable and can fetch more than RM450,000 at auction.
