Spend in these areas this year and get a tax deduction on your tax return next year

With the last two months left in 2022, you can get a tax deduction on your tax return next year if you spend in the designated areas this year.

Those who purchase books, computers, smartphones, tablets, broadband internet and gym memberships in 2022 will be entitled to a tax deduction of up to RM2,500.

In addition, women who purchase breastfeeding equipment for their children under the age of 2 will receive a tax deduction of RM1,000 every two years. The breastfeeding equipment covered includes electric or manual milking machines, coolers, bottles, etc. The rebate is available whether you purchase the whole set of breastfeeding equipment at once or separately.

A tax deduction of RM3,000 is available to taxpayers who send their children aged 6 years or below to nurseries and kindergartens registered with the Ministry of Education and Welfare. However, this deduction is only available to one parent.

If the taxpayer has a SSPN for their child, they will be entitled to a tax deduction of up to RM8,000. The RM8,000 is the net amount deposited (deposits less withdrawals) in the year under the SSPN.

If you are participating in a Private Retirement Scheme (PRS) in 2022, you will also be entitled to a tax deduction of up to RM3,000.

The following information is purely for reference and the Inland Revenue Department (LHDN) has not yet released the final and complete list of tax reliefs.
