Smoking in restaurants, retirees fined RM1800!

The Magistrate Court found a retired man guilty of smoking inside a restaurant and ordered him to either pay a fine of RM1,800 or serve two months in jail in exchange for serving the full term of his sentence.

On January 10, 2022, Mansu Abdullah, 62, entered a guilty plea in court for smoking inside a restaurant on Tanjung Aru Road. District Court Judge Stephanie Abbey imposed the abovementioned amount onto him as part of his sentencing.

A sentence was handed down to the offender by Section 11(1)(d) and Section 11(3) of the Tobacco Products Control Act of 2004.

Upon conviction, the maximum penalty for violating either of these two sections is a fine of up to RM10,000, a prison sentence of up to 2 years, or both.
