SJK(C)s may have 6 days of Lunar New Year holidays in 2023.
Excellent news! SJK(C) students can take 6 days off during the Chinese New Year in 2023, with 1 day replaced by personal leave.
According to the National Principals’ Union, the Ministry of Education has approved personal or make-up leave for SJK(C)s across the country on January 25 (Wednesday), the fourth day of the first lunar month. SJK(C)s can thus enjoy a total of 6 days of Lunar New Year holidays.
If the SJK(C) applies for personal leave on January 25, there is no need to make up the time because each school has a total of four days of personal leave per year. If the school has used up four days of personal leave, make-up classes must be substituted.
According to the Ministry of Education’s previously released holiday table, schools will be able to take an extra day off during Chinese New Year. Group A states have an extra holiday on January 24 (Tuesday), while Group B states have an extra holiday on Friday, January 20th.
In 2023, the Chinese New Year falls on January 22 (Sunday) and January 23 (Monday) (Monday). If the weekly holiday, extra holiday, and personal leave are added, SJK(C)s can enjoy a total of 6 days of Lunar New Year holiday from January 20 to January 25.
It is worth noting, however, that the weekly holidays of the states in Group A fall on Friday and Saturday. If schools in Group A want to extend the Lunar New Year holiday, they can request January 26 (Thursday) as a supplementary holiday. Leave so that you can take a 9-day extended vacation from January 20th to January 28th (Saturday).
