Shopee is forced to modify the T&Cs of using the free shipping and coins cashback vouchers due to its mother company’s increasing losses.
Shopee’s recent shipping and rebate adjustment policies are tied to the parent company’s loss, Sea, which has worsened as a result of the loss.
According to Sea’s reports as of the end of June 2022, the cost of revenue for the e-commerce and other services businesses increased by 62.8% year over year, which was the primary factor in the net loss’s worsening. Although Shopee’s orders have grown, so have its logistics expenses.
Early in July, Shopee changed the guidelines for using vouchers. Users can no longer use a Free Shipping and Cashback Voucher simultaneously on Shopee. Users can only choose between free shipping vouchers and coins cashback vouchers.
The terms of the free shipping coupon from Shopee were also secretly amended in June; now, customers in West Malaysia should pay RM1.50 for shipping after redeeming the voucher, while customers in East Malaysia need pay RM2.
A few months ago, Shopee also decreased the amount of items that might be covered by a free shipping voucher. Up to 7 goods could previously be checked out simultaneously with each free shipping voucher, but this limit was recently lowered to just 3.
