Shanghai Disneyland resumes with “Disney friends” hug and shake hands with visitors

07/03/2023

Shanghai Disney Resort announced on Monday that the classic “Disney Friends” interactive experience would return, allowing guests to hug once again, shake hands, and pose for photos with Disney characters.

The official announcement was made on the social media platform Weibo by the Shanghai Disney Resort. It cited the Disney Friends experience as an example of how the resort’s world-famous live entertainment has impacted guests’ lives and repeatedly brought them back.

The resort claims that the presence of Mickey Mouse and his pals increases the thrill of every guest. Now, guests can share a heartfelt moment of reunion with their most treasured Disney companions.

In keeping with current trends and guidance and building off the success of reviving the classic Disney Friends experience at Disney parks around the world, Shanghai Disney Resort is slowly restarting one of the most beloved Disney traditions that many guests have been waiting for — the opportunity for personal interaction with Disney characters.

Starting Monday, parkgoers can get more personal with their Disney Friends. They can’t wait to extend their arms wide, shake hands, and get close for photos with their Disney pals. The autograph signing and Disney Friends dining experience will resume later.

Call for respect for cast members

Shanghai Disney Resort has issued instructions for Disney Friends interaction to ensure the safety of all employees and guests. These include standing in line at the designated “Meet the Disney Friends” area, following the direction of cast members, and wearing a mask at all times while in the queue or interacting with Disney Friends. The Resort asks all guests to be respectful of the staff as well.

Guests are reminded to respect cast members and Disney Friends, use appropriate language, and avoid engaging in potentially harmful, illegal, destructive, or offensive activities while at the Resort. No Disney Friend may be physically harmed in any way, including but not limited to: hitting, slapping, pounding, pulling, pushing, or other similar actions.

If guests disobey Disney’s rules, they may be asked to leave the park permanently and will not be allowed to return.

The Resort also requests that the duration of the meet and greet with Disney Friends be regulated to maximize the number of guests interacting with the characters.
