Several states in the country are expected to experience flooding in specific areas at least once a year in the future!
The Coastal Risk Checker tool of the Climate Center, an independent organization of scientists and journalists, clearly lists locations where flooding is expected to occur at least once a year starting in 2050. These locations will be lower than sea level and will therefore be subject to frequent flooding.
The Coastal Zone Risk Checker tool is based on various data models that estimate and predict areas that will be lower than sea level in the future. If CO2 emissions are not controlled, sea levels will rise every year and people living in low-lying coastal areas of the country may face flooding at least once a year for the next 30 years.
The capital city of Kuala Lumpur has already experienced two floods in just four months, one in December last year and another in March this year.
