Selangor will launch a new flood warning system that can predict the location of flooding up to a week in advance!

In recent years, massive floods have occurred frequently in Malaysia, causing people to face financial losses and even causing casualties. Many people also criticized the authorities for not issuing relevant alerts in a timely manner.

In this regard, Selangor will launch a new flood warning system, which will enable earlier flood warnings and forecast the affected areas.

Selangor state executive councilor Izham Hashim, who is in charge of infrastructure and agricultural development, told The Malaysian Insight that Selangor is expected to launch an improved flood warning system by the end of March, which will enable faster and more effective flood management.

Under this new system, not only can early warning notices be issued 7 days in advance, but it can also predict areas that may be affected by floods, and allow rescue units to increase their alertness in advance.

The Selangor government will also re-examine the state’s flood management system, including a fully automated system for waterway gates, which is being studied for quicker action. Once there is an automated system for the locks, the authorities no longer need to send people to deal with it manually.

In addition to this, the Selangor state government is also working on preparing more generators for emergencies, as power stations are generally affected during floods.

A power outage at a power station prevents the pumps and sluices from operating, so generators must be installed in advance to prevent this from happening.
