Selangor is experiencing heavy rain, but the situation is under control, according to the state fire and rescue department.

Heavy rains that fell across Selangor this evening did not result in a significant rise in river water levels, and all locations affected by flash floods the day before are now under control.

The water levels in the affected districts, notably Hulu Langat, Gombak, and Petaling, are presently displaying a decreasing trend and receding, according to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Norazam Khamis, and no fresh evacuations to flood relief centres (PPS) have been recorded.

Norazam, on the other hand, reported an embankment near Bukit Changgang had eroded this evening due to water pressure from the fast-flowing Sungai Langat. He stated that the Drainage and Irrigation Department was currently repairing the embankment and that the issue was under control. We’ve also stationed four boats in the region, and our employees are ready to respond in the event of an emergency.

Earlier today, a check at the Dewan Kenangan PPS of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) revealed that the flood victims had arrived on their own initiative after being notified by officials that Sungai Klang was at a dangerous level the day before.

Edison Ali, 41, and Fatonah Abdul Ghoni, 46, a married couple from Kampung Lanchong Jaya, said that despite the fact that their home was not flooded, they chose to take their three children to the PPS, including Muhammad Qhaleef Shah, nine, who had just been circumcised the day before. After returning from the mass circumcision event yesterday, his son was only able to sleep for a few hours.

After Asar prayers, the community management warned us that the level of Sungai Klang, which is around 200 metres from our house, was dangerously high. Only one foot remained before the water would overflow its banks.

His wife and him chose to flee because we were worried that the flood on December 18 last year would happen again, even if the water had not overflowed and entered the house.

Another victim has been identified. Norliza Hussein, 54, said she and her three children immediately packed up to move to the PPS after learning of the problem with Sungai Klang behind her house, which was likely to overflow, from the village management.

The water had not made its way into the house. However, half of the refugees at the PPS are from Kampung Lanchong Jaya, which was devastated by the previous flood. Fearing for their lives, they blindly followed all instructions to rescue themselves.

Meanwhile, MBSA Zone 10 councillor Saribanon Saibon, 54, who is in charge of Sections 26, 27, 28, and 33 in this city, said that 144 victims from 44 families have been recommended to stay at the PPS until the downpour expected for the end of the month has passed.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), seven PPS were still active as of 4 p.m., comprising 1,030 people from 264 families from the districts of Gombak, Hulu Langat, and Petaling.
