In Selangor’s busy commercial area, parking spaces are often hard to find, and it is impossible to find a parking space even after driving for half an hour.
In this regard, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) will identify the particularly busy commercial areas in 2022 to implement a time-limited parking plan, so that more car owners can more easily find public parking in commercial areas in the future.
Once the time-limited parking plan is implemented, some public parking spaces in particularly busy commercial areas identified by the authorities will be limited to two hours to prevent car owners from occupying the same parking space for a long time.
In the parking spaces in many commercial areas, most of the vehicles use monthly passes, that is, all-day parking, making it difficult for customers and visitors to find parking spaces. If time-limited parking is implemented, the traffic volume of vehicles is high, the probability of parking space freeing up space is higher, and it is easier for the public to find a parking space.
Selangor MP Ng Sze Han, who is in charge of local government, public transport, and new village development affairs, said that the plan will free up more public parking spaces in busy areas, so that car owners who go to work can quickly find parking spaces.
In any case, the authorities are not requiring public parking to be limited to two hours across the entire business district, just designated limited-hours parking zones on the busiest roads. Office workers who want to park for a long time can only move to other unrestricted parking areas.
As an exception, not all commercial districts will implement the time-restricted parking system. Only particularly busy commercial districts such as some large commercial districts in Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, or Ampang Jaya areas will need to implement the time-restricted parking system.
