It is only short enough to reach the calf position, not so short that the knees or “butt” are shown. In order to register for a business license, a 60-year-old Chinese woman wearing a long skirt went to the Pasir Gudang City Council. However, the security guards told her that she was inappropriately attired and could not enter.
In an interview, Ms. Chen noted that although she was at the time sporting a long skirt with a length that was above her knees and would have reached her ankles if it were longer, it was still considered improper.
“I told the counter staff about the situation because I didn’t want to argue with the security guard at the time. The staff member gave me a helpless look and then allowed me to use the stairs up to the second floor.”
She requested the government to publish the most recent rules for dress so that anyone who wanted to visit government offices to complete formalities might dress in a manner consistent with the law.
