Good news! Schools can enjoy up to 9 days of Lunar New Year holidays by applying for an extra day of holidays from the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
According to the Ministry of Education’s 2022 Chinese Lunar New Year School Holiday Schedule, Chinese primary schools nationwide will enjoy 6 days of Lunar New Year holidays, including 2 additional days, 2 weekly vacations and 2 public holidays.
The first day of Lunar New Year 2022 falls on Tuesday, February 1, and the second day of Lunar New Year 2022 falls on Wednesday, February 2. Group A state schools will be entitled to an additional Lunar New Year holiday on January 30 and January 31, while Group B state schools will be entitled to an additional Lunar New Year holiday on January 31 and February 3.
According to the Ministry of Education’s school holiday schedule for the Lunar New Year, schools in State Group A will start on Thursday, February 3 and schools in State Group B will start on Friday, February 4.
However, schools can apply for an additional day off from the school board, which means that schools in Group A can apply for a special holiday on February 3 and schools in Group B can apply for a special holiday on February 4. This way the school can enjoy up to 9 days of Lunar New Year holidays.
After applying for the additional holiday, schools in Group A states will be closed from January 28 to February 5 and Group B states will be closed from January 29 to February 6.
Group A states: Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu
Group B states: Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
