School Holidays for CNY, Hari Raya & Deepavali in 2023

The Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) has announced the festive school holidays for primary and secondary schools for 2023/2024 (Cuti Perayaan 2023/2024). There are holidays for the country’s three major races, namely Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Hari Raya, and Deepavali, where there is at least 5 days off for Chinese New Year!

According to the Ministry of Education’s holiday school holidays for primary and secondary schools, the Chinese New Year can enjoy 5 days of New Year school holidays. In 2023, the Chinese New Year falls on January 22 and 23, and schools across the country will be closed from January 20 to January 24.

Furthermore, Hari Raya is expected to fall on April 22 and 23 in 2023. The school will be closed from April 20th to the 23rd or 24th, for a total of 4/5 days.

Schools will be able to take advantage of Hari Raya Hari Raya school holidays from June 28 to July 1st or 2nd. Hari Raya will fall on June 29th in 2023.

Deepavali will also fall on November 12 in 2023. Domestic schools may be closed from the 10th or 11th of November to the 13th or 14th of November.

Parents can use this festive school holiday table to plan ahead for homecoming or vacation, such as purchasing airline tickets, making travel arrangements, and so on.

Group A: Kedah, Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu
Group B: Perlis, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya

Group A: April 20 (Thursday) – April 23 (Sunday)

Group A: June 28 (Wednesday) – July 1 (Saturday)
Group B: June 28 (Wednesday) – July 2 (Sunday)

Deepavali 2023
Group A: November 10 (Friday) – November 13 (Monday)
Group B: November 11 (Saturday) – November 14 (Tuesday)

Chinese New Year 2024 (during end-of-semester holidays)
Group A: February 9 (Friday) – March 9 (Saturday)
Group B: February 9 (Friday) – March 10 (Sunday)

*The 2023 Sabah Harvest Festival and Sarawak Dayak Festival both fall during the end-of-school holidays.
