Sarawak, like the rest of Malaysia, will reopen its borders on April 1.

Sarawak’s Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, stated today that the state will follow the federal government’s decision to begin the endemic transition on April 1.

After two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, people will be able to try to restore a regular life by transitioning to endemicity.

According to Uggah, this means that foreigners would be able to enter Sarawak with less health restrictions.

He stated during a banquet hosted in connection with the National Conference on Dayak Women here that the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is actively discussing logistics and strategies to enable our borders to open up.

He went on to say that strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be relaxed, and that the SDMC will make the new SOPs public in due time.

This isn’t to say that Covid-19 isn’t still a threat. It will continue to be there in our lives. According to Uggah, the SDMC chairman, it is critical to remain attentive at all times.

He also urged them to obtain a booster shot right afterwards if they hadn’t already.

He added that there is solid evidence that the booster dose helps to prevent Covid-19, and that 208,486 Sarawakians are eligible but have yet to receive the shot.

He would like to convey to them, “Do not dally and do not gamble with death,” especially if they are elderly and have comorbidities.
