Sandakan coastal residents are advised to leave due to high tide.
Following the Meteorological Department’s continuous rain warning until tomorrow, the high tide phenomenon is expected to occur again in this district tonight and tomorrow night.
As a precaution, Sandakan police chief ACP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek advised residents in coastal areas to leave their homes by 6 p.m. today.
Several places are at risk, and residents are advised to relocate to relatives’ homes or to a temporary relief centre (PPS) that will be identified in their respective areas.
The high tide phenomenon that occurred around 10 p.m. yesterday damaged about 100 houses in Kampung Forest here, affecting more than 300 residents, the majority of whom were evacuated to the PPS at SK Sungai Anib 2.
Abdul Fuad expressed gratitude that no casualties were reported during the incident, but advised residents in high-risk areas to obey security personnel’s orders, particularly to evacuate.
Aside from Kampung Forest, the high tide also affected Kampung Tinusa 2 nearby, but no houses were damaged.
Meanwhile, SandakanMember of Parliament Vivian Wong has stated that she will discuss with the SandakanMunicipalCouncil(MPS) the use of housing units under the People’sHousingProgram(PPR) as temporary housing for the victims.
