Proton S70 launching on November 28!

22/11/2023

On November 28, the world will witness the official launch of Proton S70, a mere few weeks after its existence was made public. The national automaker made the launch date announcement on its Facebook page.

Since the 2016 release of the Proton Persona, the national automaker’s Proton S70 is essentially its first entirely new sedan offering. Its official price has not yet been disclosed, but it has been described as a B-segment model with C-segment pricing.

Therefore, even though the S70’s physical appearance is more akin to that of the Honda Civic, it is highly likely that it will compete in the same market as the Honda City and Toyota Vios. As of November 1, you can reserve the new model with a refundable deposit of RM500, subject to availability.

Proton S70 performance

While the new model might be based on the 4th generation Geely Emgrand, the S70 carries more performance than its Geely counterpart which is currently available in China and the Phillippines. This is due to its port-injection 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine.

This engine, which is also found in the less expensive Proton X50 SUV, has a displacement of 148 horsepower and 223 Nm of torque. It is coupled to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. The Proton S70 has a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of less than 10 seconds, though its maximum speed is still unknown.

Proton S70 variants

The new sedan is available in four different configurations, the base Executive model coming with 16-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, and halogen headlights. However, the Premium version comes with a number of enhancements, such as leatherette seats, a reverse camera, auto air conditioning, LED headlamps, and a taillight bar.

Additionally, there are the Flagship and Flagship X models, which come with 17-inch wheels, a wireless charger, and a driver power seat. Both of them have a larger 12.3-inch infotainment head unit (IHU) and a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as opposed to the 8-inch IHU found in the two lower-end variants.

Only the Flagship and Flagship X versions of the S70 will be an option if you wish to have an Advance Driver Assistance System (ADAS) installed. The system offers a number of functions, including adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and autonomous emergency braking.

In addition, there’s Automatic High Beam, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Door Opening Warning, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Not to be overlooked, a 360-degree camera has also been installed.
