06/05/2022

Proton sold 8,839 new vehicles in April, including 1,554 Proton X50 deliveries.

Proton has reported April market sales of 8,839 new vehicles sold in April, which represents a 32.2% decrease compared to March sales and a 41.1% decrease compared to the same month in 2021.

Proton’s sales decline in April was mainly due to a shortage of chip supply. Proton’s market share for the month is forecast at 15.6 percent, compared to 17 percent year-to-date.

The Proton Saga was Proton’s best-selling car, with 4,579 Proton Saga units delivered in April. 1,554 Proton X50 and 1,530 Proton X70 units were delivered in April, while 622 Proton Persona and 301 Proton Exora units were sold. The Proton Iriz, on the other hand, sold 253 units.

Proton noted that it has ensured sufficient supply of chips for May and June and therefore expects to increase production capacity in the coming days.

In addition, orders for new vehicles received by Proton on or after May 1 will have to wait until after July 1 for delivery due to the global shortage of cores and semiconductor supply shortages.

This also means that any customer who places an order for any of Proton’s new vehicles on or after May 1 will not be able to get their car until July at the earliest and will have to pay sales tax on their new vehicle if the government does not extend the sales tax exemption benefit again.
