What is PROPOLIS?
Worker bees collect resin from conifers and mix it with their own saliva enzyme secretion and beeswax to become propolis. Propolis is used to build and repair honeycombs, and it can also prevent moisture from entering honeycombs, maintain temperature and control air flowing into honeycombs. Propolis can help the hive maintain a sterile environment, and protect larvae, honey and honeycombs from invasion. Since thousands of years ago, ancient civilizations have used propolis as medicine. Greeks used it to treat abscesses. Assyrians applied propolis to wounds and tumours to resist infection and help wounds heal. Egyptians used it to preserve mummies.
According to research published by Brazilian scientists in the medical journal Biomedicine and Drug Treatment, propolis contains rich and unique bioactive substances, which have strong anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, immune system-strengthening and anti-oxidant properties against a variety of infectious and non-infectious viruses. It can interfere with the main pathways of virus replication and limit virus invasion or attachment to host cells.
Propolis contains active substances such as quercetin, phenethyl ester, galangal essence, kaempferol, hesperidin, myricetin and caffeic acid, which can inhibit viruses from invading cells. In addition, propolis can also relieve and treat discomfort caused by upper respiratory tract infections, such as cough, rhinitis, bronchitis, etc., and its therapeutic effect is very significant. Propolis also has a compound called Pinocembrin, which has antifungal effect. These anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties make propolis have a wound-healing effect.
Studies have confirmed that propolis can be suggested as a preventive method for people at high risk in the current virus pandemic. Among them, Brazil green propolis has high medicinal value.
Although propolis plays an important role, propolis collected from beekeepers can not be eaten directly, so it needs special technical treatment, and can only be taken after filtering the sawdust, soil, heavy metals and other substances in propolis.
Propolis has been recognized as a natural antibiotic without toxic and side effects in nature. Although there are many benefits, remember that everything should be enough, or remember to wash your hands frequently, wear a mask when going out, and keep a social distance to maintain good personal hygiene habits ~
