02/05/2022

Prime Minister has announced that Labour Day holiday will be moved to May 4 as Eid al-Fitr has been brought forward to May 2!

According to the announcement made by Prime Minister, the Labour Day holiday, which was originally scheduled to fall on May 2, will be moved to May 4. This means that everyone will be able to enjoy the four-day Labour Day and Eid holiday before returning to work on May 5.

Originally, Eid al-Fitr was forecast to fall on May 3 and 4, and the Labour Day holiday on May 2, but with the announcement that Eid al-Fitr has been brought forward to May 2 and 3, the Labour Day holiday will also be moved to May 4.

In his message, the Prime Minister said that the Labour Day holiday would not be applicable to Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor because the weekly holidays in these states fall on Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays are working days in these states, therefore Labour Day on 1 May falls on a working day and will not be eligible for the holiday.

However, the Prime Minister also said that the state governments have the right to make any announcement regarding the holiday. The Johor state government has also issued a proclamation announcing that the special holiday, which was to fall on May 2, will be moved to May 4. The declaration of this special holiday is in accordance with the rights conferred by Section 9(1) of the Public Holidays Act 1951 (Act 396).

The Terengganu and Kelantan State Governments have also declared 4 May as a special holiday.
