It is understood that the price of pork will soar to RM1,300 per 100kg from next week, currently at RM1,240 per 100kg, and will increase by RM60 to RM1,300 next week.
The price of pork was RM720 per 100kg at the beginning of this year, and has risen to RM1240 after six price hikes, half of which was due to the outbreak of African swine fever in several parts of the country, which led to the mass slaughter of pigs. The war also led to an increase in the price of pig feed.
The price of pork has now become so high that many people cannot afford to eat it and sales of pork have dropped significantly. As the price of pork has soared, many pork products such as bakuteh and meatballs have followed suit.
