Police launch road safety operation around Eid with 10km speed reduction on highway

Police will launch a road safety campaign between 29 April and 8 May, in which the speed of vehicles on all federal and interstate roads will be reduced by 10 kilometres per hour, from 80 to 70 kilometres per hour on interstate roads and from 90 to 80 kilometres per hour on federal roads.

In addition, heavy vehicles are banned from the roads on the three days before (30 April to 2 May) and the two days after (7 and 8 May) Eid al-Fitr, while construction work on thoroughfares, federal roads and interstate roads must be stopped.

Police are expecting up to 14 million people to flood the roads in the three days before Eid to return home to celebrate Eid. Police are also expecting up to 4.7 million traffic to flood the roads on the country’s 32 main thoroughfares each day.
