Police have issued a message reminding people not to illegally set off fireworks during Festival!

According to a notice issued by the Royal Malaysian Police, people are legally prohibited from possessing, selling, buying and setting off firecrackers and fireworks during the festival. Currently, government only allows the public sale of non-hazardous POP-POP and HAPPY BOOM fireworks.

However, businesses wishing to sell POP-POP and HAPPY BOOM fireworks will still need to apply to the Police Department before they can sell these fireworks publicly as required.

Anyone who sells, buys or sets off firecrackers and fireworks in contravention of the law will be in breach of Sections 7 and 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years, a fine of RM10,000 or both.

Public are urged to comply with the relevant regulations and avoid violating the law.
