Oxford University Research: Playing video games helps mental health!

17/11/2020

According to the latest research report of Oxford University researchers, playing video games is good for mental health. Due to the epidemic, the time spent at home has been longer, and working from home has become the current trend.

It is reported that this research report uses the two games “Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville” and “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” as a survey test.

This study used data provided by game developers Electronic Arts and Nintendo on how much time the respondents played games, unlike previous studies that relied on players’ inaccurate estimates. Researchers from the Oxford Institute found in tests that the actual time spent playing games is a small but important positive factor for people’s happiness. The level of happiness the player gets from the game may be more important than just the game time.

Andrew Przybylski, director of research, also said that the research results show that video games are not necessarily harmful to the health of players, but have a significant impact on other psychological factors’ happiness. In fact, playing games may be an activity that has a positive relationship with people’s mental health, and regulating video games may prevent players from getting these benefits.
