Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Wan Salim Wan Mohd. Noor reminded Muslims to observe fasts. During the month of Ramadan, it is additionally unlawful to publish pictures of food or people consuming it on social media before breaking the fast!
Wang Salim noted that Ramadan fasting is a Muslim requirement that every adult Muslim must follow, according to the “Kosmo” article. According to him, posting photos of food on social media before iftar is seen as serving a specific purpose and encourages Muslims to “escape from the fasting” (Ponteng Puasa) religious responsibilities and do some actions banned by Islam.
Every truthful Muslim should not undervalue or underestimate this religious requirement, including restaurant owners who operate during Ramadan, those who sell food and beverages, as they too must fast. He further urged Islamic law enforcement agencies in all states to inspect and guide restaurants during Ramadan to deal with those who provide food and drinks to Muslims who are not fasting. Additionally, he suggested that more posts encouraging Muslims to observe their religious requirement to fast throughout Ramadan should be shared on social media platforms like WhatsApp, TikTok, and Instagram.
