Pahang will offer an RM300 incentive for newborns starting 2023.
As part of the state government’s initiative to boost the state’s population, the Pahang Pride Kid incentive for each baby born in the state would be increased from RM200 to RM300 starting next year.
Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail claimed that despite being Peninsula Malaysia’s largest state, Pahang’s population of only 1.67 million people is still small in comparison to the other states.
The incentive, according to Wan Rosdy, is for all infants born in Pahang, regardless of where their parents are from.
Parents must be Malaysian citizens, and kids must be born on or after January 1, 2022, according to previously specified restrictions.
The Pahang Pride Kid incentive was first announced at the Pahang 2022 Budget presentation in December, with the state government committing RM5 million to benefit 25,000 infants.
Aside from the RM200 incentive for babies born this year, Wan Rosdy said the state government has also established the “one baby, one tree” initiative as a symbolic gesture to commemorate the births and to add value to Pahang’s environmental efforts.
The tree-planting project was carried out in partnership with the Pahang Forestry Department, who donated saplings and planting locations, and Bank Rakyat, which paid RM250,000 for the seedlings’ purchase.
Plants like ‘pokok ru’ (casuarina trees) in Pekan district are chosen based on their compatibility as well as departmental guidance because this location is near the coast.
