Over 8,000 Schools to Complete Toilet Upgrades by Year’s End: A Big Win for Education!

30/11/2023

By the end of this year, more than 8,000 schools that received a total of RM578 million in government funding are supposed to have finished renovating and repairing their restrooms. The majority of the schools, according to Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, have finished the work thus far. “The government has fully subsidised 8,020 schools with a total of RM578.02 million” “These schools will get RM70,000 apiece, and other Education Ministry institutions, like colleges, will get RM200,000 apiece,” stated Lim. She informed reporters on Wednesday, Nov. 8, that “the majority of the projects have been completed and those that are ongoing are expected to be completed by year’s end.”According to Lim, 1,921 government-aided schools that were not given the allotment will eventually receive it.
“Partially-aided schools are not included (on the list of recipients of RM70,000 aid) and I hope they will receive the same amount,” she stated. According to Lim, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of the Finance Ministry’s allocation to repair school restrooms is a first. This is the first time the allocation has been made in this manner. It is a one-time offer that won’t be renewed annually. After the renovations, we hope that schools will continue to maintain their restrooms,” she stated. Anwar brought up the subject of unclean school restrooms on June 3, calling it an ongoing issue. He claimed to be aware of the generally filthy and damaged state of school restrooms and the continued disregard for these necessities. Then he gave Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek instructions to follow up with them. During the October 13 Budget 2024 tabling, the Prime Minister announced that over 8,000 schools’ toilet repair projects would be nearly finished by this year.
