Our nation may experience the El Nino phenomena, and the hot, dry weather could result in water shortages.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department estimates that the El Nio phenomenon will be active in our country from April to September, and the drier weather will have a negative impact on our country, according to a statement released by the Malaysian Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change.
The potential of rivers and reservoirs to store water will decrease as a result of the lack of rain. In order to decrease water wastage, relevant agencies have made early preparations such as monitoring reservoir storage capacity, drilling for groundwater, and mending damaged water pipes.
In Peninsular Malaysia, 24 reservoirs now have more than 80% of their water storage capacity, while there are several reservoirs with only about 60%. The water storage capacity of each reservoir is also regularly checked by the relevant authorities to make sure it stays at a good level.
Our country has recently suffered sweltering heat. In many places, the peak temperature is between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius. People are yelling that they are unable to handle it. Everyone is urged by the Meteorological Bureau to limit outdoor activity and drink lots of water. If you are facing heat related problems, you need to find a cool area to rest right away.
